Just my Type; Font and Alpha challenge 21march2010

Welcome to the next Just my Type scrapbook challenge smile
Its no secret I love type. Fonts, alphas, choice of type - they really matter to me. In fact, during our last all day chats when lots of people admitted to being swayed by pretty packaging, I was apparently alone when I said I have been known to buy groceries just because of the font on the packaging… LOL
And I did it again just the other day…just for this challenge in fact!

Luckily its a lovely range of juices, that taste as good as the box looks wink

Heres how the Creative Team ran with this inspiration…

Linda made a lovely page, with her usual fantastic, crisp, clear photos on

Aino created a beautiful piece of her artwork

And heres my page… I had a great model to help me out with mine wink

REALLY looking forward to seeing how this inspires you all.  Please post your pages in our JMT gallery, and as its for Just my Type, please make an extra effort to list your fonts too!

Until next time…

Phew the weeks are spinning past and there have been some AWESOME typography layout hitting the galleries lately.

Just My Type - Challenge 3

What a hectic and exciting weekend of chats and specials we have all had here at DD. It’s been awesome.

Now on to my Typography inspiration for you.

I have done this on purpose smile A simple example of how typography enhances a layout immensely. It can be your title or your focal point.  The different interpretations by the creative team reminded me how versatile
a) the creative team is and
b) everyone interprets inspiration differently.

So here is the inspiration piece.

image

Let’s have a look at how different our layouts are.

Firstly Debi’s great layout using a large photo of her gorgeous son as the focal point and she used many ideas from the original piece to create her layout.

image

Then Mollie created an awesome “splash” for us all to enjoy. The way Mollie has used flourishes to enhance the title to emulate the movement of her grand daughter in the photo’s is awesome.

image

Then Mel’s use of an awesome eye-catching central photo with an amazing quote is inspiring all on it’s own .

image

Lastly I took a literal angle on it.

image

Hope we have inspired you to create your very own layout using this purpose as your inspiration.  Please upload your layouts in the Just my type gallery.

have a happy week.

Just my Type; Font and Alpha challenge, No. 47

Maybe it reminds me of the way I used to end up paper scrapping – run outa vowels anyone?- but I truly love to mix up my alpha and fonts. Anything altered art looking makes me happy!
You get something artistic and creative… and easy. You always have the ingredients needed!
This is my inspirational starting point-

image

Currently its very ‘in’ to be doing this, (tho heavens, I’ve definitely been doing it when it was probably ‘out’ too;) )And there are numerous ‘spell with photos’ websites about.
You can take both alphas or fonts for your letters, and mix them up. You can always rasterize and add a stroke to your font, to give it that sticker appeal too.
(Cassie has an excellent tutorial for that, ‘sticker art’ )

Or there are several fonts that mix it up for you, such as Laundromat 1967, Monbijoux, and Ransom Note Font, to name a few.

Plus, in store not only are there hundreds of alphas to choose from but we have Lynn’s Ransom alpha and, coming soon, Katies Found Alpha….

Want to see our example pages?

I hope we’re inspiring you! Be sure to try it out and post your pages to the JMT gallery!

Just My Type is baaaaack! (#46… to be exact!)

Yes, we’re back! After a yearlong hiatus from fonts and type and typography (and the occasional typo! LOL), Just My Type is returning to the DD blog! Melanie Grimes (“britgirl”) and I (Debi Boler, aka “beehive50”), are happy to be back and, this go-round, we are joined by the talented Sam Ellis (“sam ellis”, duh!)! The three of us are very excited to bring you new typography challenges every other Sunday and we hope you will join us! And, now… drum roll, please… your typography challenge for this week!

CHALLENGE: Use a BIG font or alpha to emphasize the theme of your layout.

Yes, it seems simple. And, for the most part, it IS a simple challenge. But, think about it for a moment… does your font/alpha complement your theme? Is the BIG font/alpha emphasizing something BIG and bold and exciting? If not, you may want to rethink your font choice. A big, bold title usually looks out of place on layouts that might be of a sweet baby, swaddled in soft blankets or a serene landscape… I think you can see where I’m heading on this! Remember: Don’t just think about SIZE… additional emphasis can also come from COLOR or your title’s PROMINENCE on a layout, You can use different techniques, such as SHADOWS or adding a STROKE, etc. This week… just keep it BIG!

Sam chose a simple, but bold font (Impact) for her layout. Appropriately named, wouldn’t you say? And, yes, this is a sweet baby layout, but the emphasis that Sam chose to focus on here was that lovable baby chubbiness of Daniel. (Don’t you just wanna squeeze him?) Sam told me he reminded her of the “Michelin Man” in this photo… you know, the tire company’s mascot. Sam used the Impact font for both parts of her title, but using light blue for his name is a clever way to also emphasize baby softness!

image

Melanie took a slighty different approach to the challenge this week. Although her title font is not a thick, solid font, it is large and holds prominence on the page. Mel placed special emphasis on the title (and hence, her layout theme) by using a bold red for the color! Like Sam’s layout, her title stands out, not so much because it is large, but also because of it’s prominence and color. Red is exciting and goes perfectly with all the fun and funky photos of her layout!

image

Like Sam, I chose to use the Impact font for… well… impact! LOL In fact, I actually used that word for my title and the theme of my layout… the impact that my daughter has had on the high school varsity soccer team this season. Not only is my title large, but I used an even larger copy, with reduced opacity, behind it. I also reused the font, changing color, in the body of the journaling each time I typed the word “impact”. Can you see how much impact all of this made? *grin*

image

All three of us hope you all join in on this week’s challenge… and check back for a new challenge in two weeks! Be sure to post your layouts in the Just My Type Gallery at Designer Digitals. Can’t wait to see your layouts!
