Just My type - 20 June 2010

I think amazing typography is eyecatching and essential in great design.  I chose this example purely because it grabbed my eye the minute I saw it. It almost made my heart skip a beat. I really love the way the main typography flows and takes the place of the dress. This simply reiterates that it doesn’t matter what is filling the space for your eye to complete the picture. I also love sub-text. There are some clever touches in that as well.

My inspiration:

And here I have created a layout using a literal interpretation of this typography, but you can use any little piece you like. Please post your entry into the JUST MY TYPE gallery.

Just My Type… less is more!

Hi y’all! Debi here this week… and, like many of you, I’m sure, I’m CRAZY busy! So, I decided to keep this week’s JMT challenge simple: Less is More.

In other words, there are times when your design can be understated and simple and the photos don’t need alot of words. Subsequently, the title doesn’t need to ‘shout’ to the viewer. (It’s kind of like whispering to your kids… they REALLY listen then, don’t they? *wink*) No, you don’t always need to have a bold, thick font or dimensional alpha headlining your page. Sometimes, a soft, subtle title can speak volumes.

On this layout of Mel’s daughter, Daisy, she used a few choice words to describe her adorable daughter and chose two different fonts. Both fonts are light… the script font is feminine and the main font is larger, but maintains a more subtle presence because it so open. By locating the title down near the bottom of the layout, she also keeps the focus on that cute photo!

For this layout, I chose a simple title which perfectly described this wonderful photo of my daughter and some of her friends that joined her (and me!) on a 10-day tour of London, Paris, Florence and Rome! The trip was amazing (of course!) and this boat tour along the Seine River in Paris (hence, the French title!) was just one highlight of the vacation. My title also serves as journaling (“Les amies sur la Seine” is French for “Friends on the Seine” River) and I set this particular font size to 36 pt… not too large. I tucked the words under the (not really!) nautical flags. The font I chose is small in stature, but just a tad whimsical, too. I think it perfectly describes the photo, where we were and what we were doing, as well as the feeling of fun and friendship.

So, this week, simplify and create a layout using a few choice words for your title and choose a font that is understated, simple and xxxxx with your theme! Remember to post your layouts in the “Just My Type” gallery at Designer Digitals! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Another whirlwind few weeks have passed and there is amazing typography everywhere I look.

This inspiration really got my juices going and I hope you are inspired too.

I couldn’t resist doing this layout of my sweet little grandson who dribbles all the time smile

Mel also used this inspiration to create a gorgeous layout of her daughter,  Mollie, in yellow, that makes me think of Spring.

Hope you have an awesome few weeks and can’t wait to see you using this piece as inspiration in your layouts. Please don’t forget to place it in the JUST MY TYPE GALLERY.

Just My Type… literally!

So, this week’s “Just My Type” challenge is for y’all to use “your” type on a layout! Check out this thread at Designer Digitals for a fun quiz to help you find “your” type! A font just for YOU!

What Type Are You?

So, now that you’ve found “your” font, use it on a layout! Simple, huh? Well, sorta… kinda… “My” font was PLASTICA… not a font I would’ve picked out but, I decided to find it and use it. (And, this challenge was born!) Funny thing, though (for all of you who also find PLASTICA to be “yours”!)... I couldn’t find it online as an actual font! However, I found some interesting discussions about it. (Go figure, huh?) Anyways, someone had found a similar font (UMBRA), so that’s what I used on my layout for my title!

Have fun this week, finding “your” font and using it on a layout! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! And, just so ya know… I’ll be late checking the gallery this week ‘cuz I’ll be in Europe with my daughter! But, I will be checking the “Just My Type” Gallery when I get back!
