Just my Type - November

So, this monthly type and font challenge is indeed called ‘Just my Type’… and this time I really want to know; exactly what is your type?

Not just a page with a favourite font on, but; if you were a font which one would you be and why? Or maybe you know just which font your loved ones would be?!

There are so many rather fabulous fonts to choose from-

Know anyone happy, playful and a little childlike? I’m thinking Kristen font!

How about assertive, in your face , big and bold? Well that must be impact right?

Secretive, classy and efficient? Got to be secret code!

Traditional and well read? Cant beat ol’ Times New Roman!

Attractive, looks good in red and prone to artistic temperament? Tall dark ferro rosso font then!

Funny, but overly loud and no use in everyday occasions? Blueberry foxhound every time wink

You get the idea smile

Heres my page. Instead of deleting all the rejected shots from a recent photo shoot with my teenage daughter, I put them all on a page. I always get many shots of Georgia like these; rolling her eyes, looking away, sighing and huffing at me, laughing, joking, getting the giggles. Really they are very her right now.

The descriptive font? 2 peas drama queen. Absolutely no idea why that one… wink

Just My Type… stick ‘em up!

I know, I know… corny title, right? But, perfect for this week’s “Just My Type” challenge: Show off your title by giving it the look of stickers!

My inspiration for this week’s challenge came from the NCAA website (http://www.ncaa.com), where I’ve been researching colleges for Shannon… I love how each of their big tournament logos has the look of a sticker. It’s bold and eye-catching! And, an easy look for us digi scrappers to achieve! Use already-created letter stickers or make your own by adding a “stroke” to your typed words.

image

(And, a word of warning: I just noticed that all my example layouts this week include photos of Shannon playing soccer… sorry ‘bout that!)

Here, I tried to replicate the NCAA look as closely as possible. I even used a similar font and wording, changing “College Cup” to “College Choices”! For this look, I used a font to type my title words, then simply added two strokes to the original blue letters… first, a white stroke and then a black one. I also filled in the “holes” on the letters, just like the NCAA logo!

image

On my second layout, I simply added a white stroke to Ali’s hand drawn word art. To help the title stand out even more, I simply layered it over a solid block of cardstock.

image

A really easy way to get the sticker look is to use lettering that already has the look of a sticker, as I did on this layout! I love it when our fabulous DD designers to all the hard work for us, don’t you?

I hope you join me this week for some sticker fun… can’t wait to see your stickers! Remember to post your layouts in the “Just My Type” gallery at Designer Digitals!

Just My Type 19 September 2010

Wow the gallery has been rocking after our amazing full day chat day and some amazing bargains to be had on the sale !

For Just My Type this week I found an amazing piece of typography to use as inspiration. Sometimes its not what we expect. The fonts don’t matter. In this case they don’t emphasise or assist in any way. It’s the way that the letters are placed and the big thing here is the placement of the words. Also the fact that you are giving a message but by crossing it out – almost stating a fact ! Going against the grain as such.

image

Firstly Mel (Britgirl) has created a great layout with a few images of herself placed on the cardstock. The typography and words really tell us exactly who Mel is – but crossed out to emphasise the words “just me” .  Love it !

Then I loved Paula’s take on the inspiration. She has chosen to rather use the inspiration to show words to describe her special little girl and all the amazing qualities that karate give her.  Her choice of colours for the title are taken from the photo and that emphasises the words – I did my best !  Fantastic Paula !

Then on to my Layout.  My daughter, who is irritatingly organised, completed her nursery this week and she is so proud of it.  Now the 2 months wait for baba to arrive !  I chose to use words to describe her journey with this sweet little nursery !

Just My Type - August challenge

It seems like ages since I have set a JMT challenge smile I hope this one is something that inspires you!

I am a passionate fan of type, especially old typeface and especially in old signs. I have many {many} photographs of old signs and typeface that I have seen whilst out and fallen in love with!  One of these pictures inspired todays challenge.

image

This is the entrance to one of the many underground ‘tube’ stations in London. But trust me, not many of them have beautiful signs like this one!
This challenge is to create your own swirly scrolls with lettering. Chose your font or alphabet to match or contrast with your scrolls and plumes. Write your title in amongst the swirls, or maybe the journaling, or even just the date. Make it all one colour, or make it many…

Heres my page, I fully intended to use firmer, more distinct scrolls, but in the end it went all grungy smile My Daughters initials sit at the top, and the whole thing frames a picture of her. Its both simple and striking - love it!

I do hope you’ll join in, please post your pages here in the Just My Type gallery.

Just My Type… an ‘artsy’ way!

No, I’m not talking Art Journaling here, although that might be a nice offshoot… *wink* I’m talking about WORD ART. That’s right… those wonderful titles and quotes that are so beautifully created by our DD designers. They take words and type (fonts) and mix the two, creating eye-catching typography with a message. So, since everyone I know seems to be really, really busy these days, I thought a quick and easy way to explore typography at its best would be to USE word art on a layout this week! You can make your own, but using one already created by our DD designers is so much quicker and easier! hahahaha

Just look at all these fantastic photos of Aino’s (aino) little girl… do they not make you just burst out smiling? So, so cute! And, with one gorgeous shot as her focal point, all Aino needed to finish up this layout was the perfect quote… notice how the word art has been highlighted with color, boldness and a bit of shadowing on the “I”. Even word art can be personalized just how you want it!

image

Lynn (grandmalynnie) used Anna’s barbecue word art for a clever title, adding a thin, white stroke to the words to make a ‘sticker’. This helps the title stand out on the layout and adds a bit of dimension, as well. I especially love the subtle wordart Lynn added under the title… good grub good grub good grub… boy, that makes me hungry! LOL Lynn’s finished up with a couple of great photos of Joel and his grandpa and some fun embellishments that support her BBQ theme!

image

I loved Anna’s “be you. be cool.” wordart… it just seemed perfect for the ‘cool’ photo of my son! I loved both the vertical and horizontal orientation of the two parts of the title and the open font on “cool” was subtle enough that I could add two silly epoxies without making the title too bold and ‘heavy’!

image

So, let’s see how you can use wordart this week… call on one of the DD designers to do the creating for you or make your own! Just remember to post your layouts in the “Just My Type” gallery! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
