Heritage Challenge No. 42 { summertime }

Lynnie had the idea last month to ask the CT to scrap layouts featuring summer fun.  Laura, Merrilee and Steph all responded with layouts featuring the beach!  So this month I decided to ask for heritage summer layouts for a second time because even though the challenge falls on the 4th of July, I thought that would be a really narrow field . . . and because it is summer and most of us have lots of summer fun photographs that need scrapping.  Well, you guessed it . . . Debi, Carol & I all scrapped beach and swimming photos again!  But, what could be more fun in the summer than cooling off at the beach or pool . . . or playing in the sprinkler!

Debi [beehive50] found photographs from the late 1960’s of a beach volleyball game that she played.  How wonderful to have lived near the California beaches and to be athletic enough to play a great game of volleyball!  This page is another of typically Debi’s clean and simple layout . . . another one of her fantastic pages.

Next Carol [Carollee] has created such an interesting scrapbook page using treasured photographs of her grandparents on an outing to the beach in the 1930’s.  Carol pays such attention to detail in all of her pages . . . and pulls together such well designed and creative pages.  I love that so many of Carol’s heritage pages have such a lovely softness to them.

Lynn aka Grandma Lynnie, my Heritage Challenge co-writer for the blog & I hope that you will draw inspiration from Debi, Carol and me this week for Heritage Challenge No. 42.  If you didn’t have time to make a summertime page for this challenge in June with Lynnie, I would love to see your “summertime” pages in the Heritage Gallery here at Designer Digitals in July.  Remember that your pages should use products from the Designer Digitals Store and feature memories from the 1970’s or earlier.  Some of you may be surprised that you are considered “heritage” girls!!!

Fun at the Beach-A Heritage Challenge

I had the bright idea for this month’s heritage challenge of asking the CT to scrap layouts featuring summer fun. Laura, Merrilee and Steph all responded with delightful layouts and, interestingly enough, all three of them featured fun at the beach! So this challenge has evolved into a Fun at the Beach in Days Gone By challenge! Check out each of these ladies’ takes on the challenge topic. You will love them!

Laura Grimes has used a gorgeous grouping of textural elements in her layout featuring a photo of her grandmother from 1936!

Heritage Challenge No. 40 . . . prom night

In the United States and Canada, a prom, short for promenade, is a formal (black tie) dance, or gathering of high school students. It is typically held near the end of the senior year. It figures greatly in popular culture and is a major event among high school students. High school juniors attending the prom may call it Junior Prom while high school seniors may call it Senior Prom. In practice this may be a combined junior/senior dance.  ( from Wikipedia )

After reading this clip from the internet, I see that in some ways proms haven’t changed much from my first prom in our small southern high school in 1960.  But, in other ways they have changed immensely!  The cost of prom night in the United States can cost as much as a thousand dollars . . . this cost may cover tuxedo, prom dress, corsage, boutonniere, tickets, dinner out and even a limousine for some the modern kids!

We are going to roll back the clock a few years . . . or perhaps a few decades!  The cost was very different for some of us.  Dresses could vary greatly . . . mine was made by my aunt and Elena’s mom’s dress was one that she had worn in her cousin’s wedding.  Now about the limo . . . Debi’s date didn’t own a car, so Debi’s dad let him use their Camero.  Debi was shocked!  My beau drove his dad’s 1957 Chevy . . . my dress with it’s hoop skirt was a tight squeeze into the front seat!!  Fond memories.

Look at four past proms from four CT members today!

First we see [ Elena ] Elena’s darling mom.
Elena used these Designer Digital’s products:  ArtPlay Palette Blooming Marvelous, Basic Tags No. 01Flossy Stitches No. 02 & Vintage Photo Frames No. 18.

Debi  [ beehive 50 ] made a layout a companion page for “Senior Prom 1972” .  That layout was for Heritage Challenge No. 34 { my favorite dress }.  I think that it is just so cool that Debi let us know more about that fun evening from high school.  Here are the kits that Debi used:  Little Plastic Flowers No. 01Layered Memories No. 125Just Linens Paper Pack No. 15, Emery Solids paper Pack, Laurent Kit and Simply Fall Paper Pack.

Amy [ Amy L ] seems to be the youngest of us posting layouts here today.  Here is her very 70’s mod page showing her fun high school prom from 1975.  Amy is a gem when using loads of products . . . here they are:  Aryanna Paper Pack, Backyard Expedition KitBasic Tags No. 01Be Loved Mini KitBrisbee KitClassic Cardstock: Snow FunDIY Big BracketsFlitter Kit, La Folie KitLetter Box Brushes No. 04Notebook Edge Frames No. 0Notebook Paper Pack No. 02Pelican Park KitPierrette SolidsSay Yes PagesetScallop Strip Masks No. 02Simple Classics No. 07 KitStitched by Anna Borders Black No. 01Stitched Leather Alphabet No. 0Totally Tied Up No. 01Wedding No. 01 Hand Drawn Brushes.

A New Heritage Challenge!

It’s time for another Heritage Challenge! Each month, Mollie or I come up with an idea and ask the Creative Team for layouts that illustrate the challenge. We are always provided with excellent examples by our talented team. I think you will agree that this month, the examples are particularly stellar! I hope you will enjoy these layouts of occupations/businesses of the past.

The first example is by Merrilee (digigrandma) and it tells the story of her father’s coaching career. She manages to give us the highlights of his outstanding career in one beautiful well designed page! I particularly love her last line of journaling.

Heritage Challenge No. 38   { on the map }

While thinking of the Heritage Challenge a few days ago . . .  I was also looking at the new maps Katie put in the store just this week.  I decided that a fun challenge would be to scrap a heritage photo from your life that could include a map of the place where the photograph took place.  Take a look at the examples and see that you have lots of freedom with maps!  The store is just loaded with great inspiration . . . I typed map into the search box and came up with so many cool ideas!  I know that your creative minds will begin to click too after looking at the inspiration layouts that members of the CT have created for the blog today.

First of all is this most interesting layout from Paula (aka PaulaSG).  She tells the story of her mother coming to America in 1964.  Paula used one of Katie’s Painted Maps & a terrific airplane Paper Pieced map to help tell her story.

Next Patricia (aka iUma)  delights us with a layout about her beautiful mother in 1944.  Patricia uses a map blended into the background on one of Lynn’s new “Totally Trashed” papers.

Now, we are going to take a look at a fantastic layout from Jana Morton.  Journey to America tells the story of her family and their immigration to America in the 1880’s.  You will want to study this layout to see Jana’s Photoshop skills!

To wind up the examples today, here is a layout from me (aka readstoomuch).  My page shows a photograph of my husband & me made while we were living in Germany in the late 1960’s while in the Army.
