Heritage Challenge No. 05

Good Monday morning!  It is Mollie from the Designer Digitals Heritage Challenge team of Steph, Lynnie & Mollie.  It is hard to believe that this new challenge is already in its 5th week . . . so read on . . . I think that you will really enjoy this new prompt!

Today we are having a Happy Heritage Birthday Challenge here on the Designer Digitals Blog!  I hope that many of you will dig into your old scrapbooks and find a photo of yourself, your mom or dad, your husband, your child or a good friend . . . it doesn’t matter who it is, just so long as the birthday is heritage {in the 1970's or earlier} & created with all DD products.  The photos will jump start your memories & the great supplies from the DD Store should move your layout along just fine.

Our fabulous Creative Team is really having fun today!  Paula {PaulaSG}, Katie {katie pertiet}, Kari {kari}, Anna {annaaspnes} & Merrilee {digigrandma} join me {readstoomuch} in celebrating one special day in each of our lives.  Now we are moving on to the fun part of today’s Heritage Challenge!

In the first layout “Celebrate”, Paula says “Here’s me in 1974. Don’t you love my dresses? Apparently I needed two for this occasion!”  Paula’s shared her first birthday party in Ireland with her brother in these colorful photographs.

I’m digging heritage right now!”  I am happy that you are “digging heritage” Anna, because I’m loving this double pager.  And, I would love to have been invited to Anna’s fun partys as a child!

Heritage Challenge No. 4

Hi! It’s Steph and I’d like to welcome you to our 4th Heritage Challenge!

I’m so glad that it’s my turn to start the challenge this week, because I’ve been wanting to do a layout about my mother and our relationship for a long time. So, this challenge is to scrap a photo that shows a parent-child relationship. It can be you and your parent or it can be relatives of yours. But, tell us about the relationship and maybe how it affected the people in it. The parent-child relationship is one of our most important relationships in life and it’s one that lays the foundation for much of our lives as adults.

Here’s how three of us on the CT interpreted the challenge:

Myra scrapped this amazing photo of her and her father and used it as a jumping off point to discuss the lessons she’s learned from him over the years.

Supplies: Ali Edwards Layered Template No. 6, From My Bookshelf Solids Paper Pack, Moss Scape Paper Pack, Frosted Alphabet No. 2, Stitched by Anna White No. 1, and Fasten Its

Laura also scrapped a photograph of her and her father chronicling some of the difficulties in their relationship.

I (Steph) created the last layout for this week’s challenge. I scrapped a photograph of my mother and me taken on vacation in Maine at my grandparents’ cabin when I was about 5.

Heritage Challenge #3

I’m the third member of the Steph, Mollie, Lynnie Heritage Challenge team and this is my first time to post a challenge to the blog. I hope it goes according to plan, I’m a little nervous!

I’ve been in the process of making an album of all the homes I’ve lived in in my life. I just seem to be having a problem getting it finished, so I chose a challenge that I hope will help me get done. This challenge is about HOMES. The word “home” brings so many wonderful words to mind: love, security, warmth, fun, family, tradition, to name a few. For the next heritage challenge, the challenge will be to scrap a home-your home, your grandparent’s home, a home you remember from your childhood or a home you’ve only heard about! Tell what that home means (or meant) to those who lived or visited there!

Here’s what three of our creative CT members came up with to give you inspiration for this challenge!

Debi chose two photos of her childhood home for her layout-one from when her family moved in in 1959 and one from today, because her parents still live there! For her wonderful layout, Debi used the following DD products:
Stitching Holes: Rounded Corner Stitching Holes brushes and stamps
Photo Mask: Rounded Corner Clipping Masks Brushes
Sticker Tape: Postage Strip Words No 01
Template: Remember This 2 Page Layered Template
Paper, Background: Muted Colors Textured Paperie No 01
Paper, Patterned: Olan paper pack
Alpha: Tatty Alphabet
Heart: Have a Heart Felt
Tree: Felt Board Friends: Tweethearts
Pin: Pin-Its
Staples: Staple Its! No 02
Brads: Fuzzy Brads

Mo found an old ad that inspired her to create this layout about her childhood home. For her charming layout, Mo used the following products:
Candles and Cake Papers by Art Warehouse
Grungy Spring by Gretchen Thomas
Ally Oop Alpha by Lynn Grieveson
Button Borders by MaryAnne Wise
Folded Ribbon Bits No. 3 by Pattie Knox
Homeage by Anna Aspnes

Linda’s layout is also about her childhood home. She has used a collection of adorable photos from her growing up years in her layout. For her heritage layout, Linda used these products:
Rounded Corner Clipping Masks Brushes
Vintage Sun Prints paper pack
Meadow Ridge kit (berry paper and staple)
Scripted Type brushes-n-stamps
Stamped Stitched Hearts brushes and stamps No 01
Crumpled Paper Flowers No 02
Moss Scape paper pack (brown dotted paper)
All Natural kit No 02 (glitter brad)
CurvyCorner Stitched Blocks No 02

I also have a few pages of my Homes Album here.

We hope to see lots of layouts of special homes in your life posted in the Heritage Gallery!

Heritage Challenge No. 02

Today is the second posting of the new Heritage Challenge here on the Designer Digitals blog .  Steph {Steph}, Lynn {grandma lynnie} and I {Mollie aka readstoomuch} are sort of a tag team for this new challenge. Steph started this new challenge off two weeks ago with a bang using the prompt of Heritage Weddings, and boy did you respond!  At last count, there were 24 fabulous heritage wedding layouts posted in our fun new gallery.  After enjoying all of these layouts, I am really pumped for this weeks challenge.

The prompt for this week is to “Create a Page about a Grammar School Year”.  This doesn’t need to be about yourself, it could be a parent, a child, a grandparent . . . or just about someone you love.  Fiona {Applechick } & Linda {earlofoxford } from the DD Creative Team have joined me in creating pages about memorable school years when each of us were young!  What fun it was to relive some of the things that are dear to our hearts.  I hope that you will join in the fun and create a layout of your own and post your layout in the Heritage Gallery too!  Each week we will give a new “prompt” or idea for you to gain inspiration from, and we will post three layouts from Creative Team members using the prompts on the DD Blog.

The challenges are rather loose with only two “rules”:
1. At Designer Digitals, heritage means photos or events from the 1970’s or earlier.  That is one generation . . . and means that many of us are “heritage gals”! Sorry girls, but the truth hurts, doesn’t it?
2. And, for your layouts . . . you should use all Designer Digitals products to post in the Heritage Gallery.

Now let us get to the fun!  The first layout titled “Just Me” is from Fiona.  Just take a peek at five year old Fiona with her plaits & all of the neat things from that year that she has scanned in for her page!  Click on the link for Fiona’s gallery to see the many products that she has used in creating her page.

image

Now, take a look at Linda’s “Yesteryear” layout and enjoy memories of her 6th grade year in 1959.  Don’t you think that Linda looks exactly the same now as then (except for her hair)!  Here is the link for Linda’s gallery too.

I am bringing up the end of the blog layout examples by reminiscing about 1953-1954 when I was in the 3rd grade.  My page goes by the title “Mumps & Ma Ruby”. I couldn’t find an individual school photo from that year, but I do have our group photograph & a few candid shots.  I do have so many fond memories to pass down to my children and grandchildren from that long ago year & I’m so happy to have them recorded now!
