Wow, another great week and another wonderful batch of photos to choose from. This by the way is getting harder and harder to pick from, great job to all!

To start off the week is a visit to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. I love this area and shot the festival several times myself. This was done by DSC_0096.jpg by jneo

Friday Flickr Favorites, March 25, 2011

Another week, another batch of great shots on the DesignerDigitals Flickr photography group. And what a great response to our first photography challenge! Looks like a ton of people are joining in and we’re seeing a bunch of great shots.

It’s really hard to pick out just three to feature but her goes:

The composition is awesome. I love how she filled the frame and added the dramatic shot of color with the glasses.

And finally Fill the frame by Jeni-dawn

Again, lovely composition and subject matter!

Great job to all and we are keeping an eye out for our next batch of Friday Flickr Favorites. So what are your favorites?

Friday Flickr Favorites, March 18, 2011

This week we are re-starting the Friday Flickr Favorites post here at DesignerDigitals. Make sure to join our DesignerDigitals Flickr Group and your image could be featured here. And there are so many great images that it was hard to pick just three to be featured!

To start off, I was immediately drawn to susiecw47’s image ”75/365 2011 Flowers in the Flower Bed”. The purple color against the white background really makes the flower pop!

And with Terry D Photography’s “My Cup of Bokeh” I love the use of limited depth of field to create the bokeh and tying that with the coffee cup, the lights almost look like steam rising!

And finally, Christina Schutt’s “On the beach” really shows the human element with her son and the little crab. You can really feel his emotion here.

So what is your favorite from this weeks posting?

PageKraft: Write True + Click No. 23 - Color Conversions

The color you choose for a photo can impact the story as much as the words.

How do you decide which color conversion to use?  Selecting the color can be a gut feeling or a more deliberate decision based on the story you’d like to tell. Whether you choose a preset or an action, you have many choices available.

Using a Lightroom Hawaii 5-0 preset,  I’ve given my photo a 70’s feeling. A sense of nostalgia perhaps? Using this color conversion helps to tell a story when your memories of the moment aren’t as clear or a story comparing today to yesterday.

A deep black and white creates a dramatic feeling. It could work to capture your feelings about the moment. I like black and white when I want the entire subject to be important and not overwhelmed by the details of any of the colors in the photo. Consider using a lighter black and white conversion for a less dramatic effect.

My 5 year old son’s preference was to leave the color in. This is how his little literal mind sees the world, so it makes sense. Leave the color to tell his story in a way he remembers it.

I chose, to use Pattie’s Actions: Duotones to convert my photo to Sepia. I wanted to tell the story of this day and so many days like it.  I like the moodiness that sepia brings and that bit of nostalgia.

Join me in thinking about how your photos color conversion relates the True story you want to convey. I’d love to see what you decide in the PageKraft: Write True+Click gallery.
