Hybrid Scrapbooking and More—Using Word Art

Today I want to focus on word art.  At Designer Digitals there is a great variety of word art.  There are many different styles to fit our individual taste and needs.  When we are doing a scrapbook page it can replace the journaling or the title on a page or it can be a nice embellishment.  The options available are so great, but why should we stop with using the beautiful designs for scrapbook pages.  In my project today I used Anna Aspnes Garden WordArt No. 1 on a wall hanging.  I took a file with the word art to a vinyl cutter and had them cut it out for me and then I adhered it to an old cupboard door.  What a simple way to produce some art work for my home.  I hope everyone will take a look at all the available word art in the store and show us what new ways you find to use it.  Be sure to post your ideas in the Hybrid Scrapbooking and More Gallery.  Thanks and have a great day!

Hybrid Scrapbooking

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!

Thankfully there is no audio on this post, but today does mark Designer Digitals’ fifth birthday! It seemed completely appropriate, therefore, to feature birthday cards today. Cards are a great way to dabble into the world of hybrid scrapbooking. It’s a smaller canvas than a layout and chances are pretty good that there’s someone you know who would love to be the recipient of your creativity.

Speaking of creativity, my partners in posting today are Sarah Brown and Paula Gilarde. First up are Sarah’s adorable birthday cards. Her kids helped her make these for upcoming birthday parties. Looks like the Brown family makes a great team!

I love the dimension that Paula has added to her wonderful cards! She first printed them on 4x6 paper and then trimmed them to fit on a 4.25x5.5 card. The dimension was added by including ribbon on her first card and a pop dotted star to the second one.

For my cards, I started with photos first. I used a flower photo to create the background in the first card. The second one includes several photos of cake inserted into the filmstrip element.

Hybrid Scrapbooking and More: Easter Decorating and Crafting Ideas

Sarah (shhbabymine) here with this installment of Hybrid Scrapbooking and More. The weather is warming up and I am eager for Spring to be in full bloom, aren’t you? I always look forward to brightening things up around the house after the long dark days of winter. What a fun way to do that by using our digital scrapbooking supplies to get crafty. Today we are going to share some fun hybrid ideas for your home and your kids.

Janet (JALong) created this adorable Easter Egg themed tree using Mindy’s Bunny Hop Kit and Mindy’s Bunny Hop Pinstriped Paper

I created these simple pencil toppers and Tic Tac Toe set for my girls.

If you are looking for ideas for teachers, I created these covers for Easter candy and gift bag toppers, too.

These were all created using Mindy’s Hunny Bunny Kit and Pattie’s Feltboard Friends Tweethearts and Anna’s Stitched by Anna Overlays 1

At Christmas, Mel (Britgirl) shared her lanterns she made as gifts and I added it to my list of things to make. When I saw these cute lanterns at my local craft store I bought several of them. They will make great gifts for the kids teachers, and we have a few to use around our house, too. I used Katie’s Vintage Spring Greetings

Hybrid Scrapbooking and More—Luggage Tags

Maureen (Mozer) here writing this installment of “Hybrid Scrapbooking and More.” I think it is safe to say that those in the East and Midwest USA are ready to see something other than snow! We’ve been inside a lot this winter. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m looking forward to spring cleaning! My first step is to get organized. I’ve found that luggage tags are a great way to label different bins so that things can be easily returned. I decided to put my digital supplies to work and create cute but functional tags.

image

For my first organizing project I needed tags that could easily be relabeled over and over. I decided to turn the luggage tags into mini dry-erase boards. For the second project, I used the tags to label toy bins. Since I have some non-readers, I included a photo of what was suppose to go in the container.

Supplies:
luggage tags (I used Scotch Self-Sealing Laminating Pouches for Bag Tags 2 13/16” x 4 9/16”)
digital scrapbooking supplies
ribbon

1. Create a new document: 2.5 width 3.75 height 300 dpi (If your tag is a different size than what I used, make sure your tag is smaller than the exact dimensions of the plastic luggage tag. It needs to be able to seal all the way around.)

2. Open any digital elements you would like to add and layer them on your new document.

3. When you are satisfied with your design, save as a PSD just in case you want to change anything later, and then save again as a JPEG.

4. Open a new document 8 1/2 x 11 at 300dpi. Drag your flattened (jpeg) version onto the new document. Copy that as many times as needed. If you want a decorative front and back, line up the two images side to side so that once printed, you can cut and fold in half.

5. Print the tags onto photo paper or regular paper. With luggage tags, thinner paper-weight is better.

6. Cut out and then place on the luggage tag. Seal with the adhesive back.

7. Use either the plastic ties included with the luggage tag, or use ribbons to tie to the baskets.

You can use this same idea to use on any of your organizing baskets or crates. I would love to see other ways to use your digital scrapbooking supplies to help with organizing. Please share them with us in the hybrid gallery.

Hybrid Scrapbooking and More - Using Digital Frames on Paper Layouts

Hi everyone, Paula here with some hybrid scrapbooking projects. This week we are focusing on using digital supplies on traditional paper layouts - specifically digital frames. This is my all time favorite hybrid technique. I love all the amazing digital frames that are in the Designer Digital’s store but I still love to make paper pages—this way I get to combine the two!

Some of the other CT members and I made a few layouts using various digital frames from the store. Our first fun example comes from Terri - she used Katie’s Photo Clusters No. 12 and then embellished it with paper supplies.

image

Steph used a different style of frame - Katie’s Storyboard Frames No. 01 to showcase photos of her house.

Finally, I used Katie’s Photo Clusters No. 16 to fit 12 photos on a single page layout—that’s not something that traditional paper scrapbookers can usually do this easily! I also used digital supplies for my title: Messy Stamped Alphabet No. 02 Brushes and Stamps

We hope our layouts will inspire you to make some of your own.  Be sure to post your hybrid layouts in the Hybrid Gallery for all of us to see.
