3Kits 3Ways {week 33}

This is the second week that the M & M duo of Merrilee & Mollie are at the helm for the 3 Kits 3 Ways Challenge. Merrilee (aka digigrandma), was in charge of week 32, and I (aka readstoomuch) am posting this weeks spot. Thanks again Wendy, for bringing us the first 31 weeks of great challenges.

Today, Merrilee and I have are using Back to School, as our theme and have chosen three kits from the Designer Digitals Store. We have challenged three Creative Team Members to design pages using these kits. And, we would love for you to jump in with your back to school photographs and memories too!

This time of year, when the school supplies are in the stores, and children are looking for fall clothes, I think that all of us think “Back to School”. So here we go with three great kits for today’s challenge:

School’s In WordArt from Anna Aspnes

image

Alpha Jumble Jewel Paper Pack from MaryAnn Wise

image

Chunky Chipboard Black Alpha No. 01 from Katie Pertiet

image

And now, just look at our three fabulous challenge pages:

From Jess (jesshunt) is this cool back to school from a teacher/staff point of view. I love how Jess has used Anna’s Word Art.

image

For her page, Jess used the three kits . . . plus, Katie’s Notebook Paper Pack , Pattie’s Clip Its!, and Katie’s Little Paper Leaves Curled-n-Flat.

Kathie (kathie02) has blown me away with her awesome page of our famous Buddy going off to school with his little blue backpack!  Kathie, you forgot to put in a checkbox with an A+ for entertainment.

image

I love Kathie’s addition of Katie’s Checklist Brushes (altered), Plastic Buttons, Pattie’s Fanciful Felt Ribbons and Trims, and Staple Its!

And, how could anyone resist this cute little face (X three)!  I love Paula’s (PaulaSG) take on this challenge, and love how she used the papers on the vertical masks!

image

Paula has added Lynn’s Sidelined Paper Pack, Kellie’s Shortcuts-Photoshop Actions, and Katie’s Photo Cuts Masks No. 02 to round out this great layout.

I know that you have enjoyed these pages from Jess, Kathie, and Paula just as much as Merrilee & I have. They sure do make me want to dig out some old school photos of my children to scrap!  As a matter of fact, I have a page using our 3Kits, plus a few extras that I am finishing up to post in the gallery myself.  I dug out an old photograph of my cute mother when she was only six years old as my back to school treasure!

Well, that’s it for our 3k3w Challenge for this week! Please play along with Merrilee & me, and post your pages in the 3Kits3Ways Gallery. We’d love to see your work!

3 Kits 3 Ways {Week 22}

It is Wednesday and as promised, I am on time with this week’s challenge! smile

I’m really excited this week because we all really had very different takes on the challenge and that is what 3K3W is all about. Mixing it up and using the same products in such totally different ways and with totally different subjects that you are inspired to play with your stash. Hopefully this week’s kits get you excited to play and a bit excited for Spring. Those of us in the northern hemisphere are seriously jonesing for some spring weather. So, I decided to pull out some beautiful spring goodies for this week’s challenge.

Here are the kits we used this week:
image
Spring Feast by Mindy Terasawa

image
Shades of Spring by Pattie Knox

image
Hemp Ribbons No. 1 by Katie Pertiet

The pages this week:
image
Page by Paula Gilarde

This page is such a WOW! page for me. I just love everything about it. The sweet photo and the perfect title to go with it, the softness of the page with the white space and ballet colors and the circle stitching which really pulls the eye to the middle of the page. Just wonderful. In addition to the 3 kits, Paula added the following products to her page: Star Chasers Kit (flossy stitches), Stitching holes, Pinned Photo Frames, Daylily Paper Pack (white paper) all by Katie Pertiet as well as the Torn n Tattered Paper Templates by Anna Aspnes.

I decided to work this product into a totally NON spring page. Yeah, all that talk about jonesing for spring and I go and do this page. smile But I wanted to show that this very feminine kit can be used for boy pages too. I did a lot of recoloring. In addition to recoloring all the papers, I desaturated the hemp ribbons so they matched the hat better and even turned the peony pink alpha to blue for my page. I also added a few other products to my page. Cabana White Paper and Graphic Pop Circles Brushes by Katie Pertiet, D&W Tuckables by Kellie Mize and DinoFabulous Page Kit by Anna Aspnes (for the grungy staples). In honor of the big staple discussion on the General Digital Talk board I found a fun and different staple to tied the girls over until Katie comes up with her uber cool staple set. smile I should also tell you that this page was totally inspired by Lenasmommy. I didn’t get around to scraplifting her last month, so I decided to honor her mad design skills on the blog this week.

Page by Debbie Hodge

Look at this awesome heritage page! I don’t think Debbie and Mark could be any cuter. I love how Debbie worked these whimsical products into a darling vintage page. The oval frame just adds to that feel and really makes this page work. The only thing that Debbie added to this page was the Vintage Photo Frames No. 5 Curled and Flat by Katie Pertiet.

Thanks so much for stopping by the 3K3W challenge this week! If you’d like to join in on the challenge, we’d love to see your work. Just remember to post it in the 3 Kits 3 Ways Gallery. smile

3 Kits 3 Ways {Week 21}

Better late than never I always say.

Nah, not really, but in this case we’re going to go with it. smile

This was supposed to happen last week but I was sick coming off CHA and didn’t get it together in time. So then it was supposed to be THIS Weds, and I got sick (do you see a pattern here?) and couldn’t stay vertical long enough to get it done.

SO….here is is…the first (and hopefully only) Friday edition of 3K3W!

Basic rules:
3 different products from the store
3 different creative team members
having fun coming up with 3 different ways to use the aforementioned products.

Here we go!
Products for this week’s challenge:
image
Speed Byte #32 by Pattie Knox

image
Doodled Daydream Kit by Katie Pertiet
(I pulled another kit off the home page!)

image
Imagination Brushes by Danelle Johnson

And here are the layouts for the week:
image
Page by Wendy McKeehan

I didn’t end up tweaking the speed byte as much as I had thought I would, but I managed to flip the photo horizontal and leave off the circles. I also REALLY tweaked the colors of the papers. The black is actually Metro Graffiti Paperie and I also added Distressed Frames No. 2 (coming soon) both by Anna Aspnes.

image
Page by Linda Rodriguez

I love this page. And I love how completely different the template looks when used minimally. Linda added a couple other products to her page which include: Little Fishy Paper Pack by Katie Pertiet and the ever popular Worn Stripsby Lynn Grieveson.

image
Page by Janet Ohlson

Janet stayed true to the 3 kits and pretty true to the template leaving off only the circles. But really, when the subject is her darling daughter Ella, you don’t really notice what is missing from the template now do you?

Thanks for checking out the challenge this week and if you are inclined to play along, please post your pages in the 3 Kits 3 Ways gallery. We’ll see you in a little less than 2 weeks with another challenge.

3 Kits 3 Ways {Week 20}

Welcome to the valentine’s edition of the 3K3W challenge! There are so many great valentine products in the store that we decided to highlight a few of them this week in honor of the holiday of love. Our bi-weekly challenge consists of 3 designers using 3 kits in 3 different ways. Feel free to play along and post your pages in the 3 Kits 3 Ways Gallery. We’d love to see your work!

Here are this week’s products:

image
Circle of Love by Kellie Mize

image
Magic Sparkle Heart Overlays No. 1 by Anna Aspnes

image
Flourished Love Brushes by Katie Pertiet

And this week’s inspiration:
image
Page by De Anna Heidman
This page is such a wow. De Anna has such an amazing artistic style and this page is no exception. She took classic valentine products and made them totally work on a halloween photo. So cool! I love how she turned the overlays around and used them. So clever! De Anna stayed true to the challenge with only one addition: In Distress Paper Pack by Lynn Grieveson.

image
Page by Heidi Knight
Sigh. This page just makes you wanna go “AWWWWWW” doesn’t it? That Miss Avery is such a sweetie. Heidi worked with Tortuga Template No. 68 by Kellie Mize to make the perfect baby page. I love the bird peeking out behind the photos and how she split up two photos. This page just makes me smile.

image
Page by Wendy McKeehan
I have to confess…I saw this lollipop in photos on Kelly Goree’s blog banner and went out to find one so I could have some cute valentine pics too! I was faithful to the 3 kits this week with the addition of a weekly challenge freebie frame from Andrea Victoria (slightly recolored) and I might just use that little frame as family valentines this year as I like how it turned out.

Thanks so much for stopping by this week. I look forward to seeing your pages in the gallery.

3 Kits 3 Ways {Week 19} DESIGNER EDITION

Hello everyone! Welcome back for another 3K3W challenge. This week, I decided to mix it up a bit and get a few of our talented designers to participate in the challenge. This worked really well as our designers sometimes get too busy making great products to make great pages. So this challenge was the perfect reason to scrap! Course, I didn’t let them use any of their own product. LOL The first kit this week was actually chosen by Debi (beehive50). We were commenting on the cool new decorations on the home page and on the blog (did you notice the heart brushes up there? aren’t they cute??) and Debi made mention that she hadn’t seen one of the kits that is now featured on the home page. I decided right there and then that we were going to feature that kit. Besides, it’s bright and fun and it’s freezing and snow covered where I live and a little sunshine sounded lovely.

So without further adieu:

Daydreamer Kit by MaryAnn Wise

Lots of Leather by Dana Zarling

Simple Tissue Paper Alpha by Anna Aspnes (any color)

And here are this week’s pages from some of our fabulous designers!

image
Page by Pattie Knox

This page is so good. I thought I was making it tough on the designers with the combo of elements that I chose, but they all nailed it. I love the crop on this photo and the story is well worth your time. In addition to the 3 kits, Pattie used Tortuga Template No. 8 by Kellie Mize and Messy Stitching by Katie Pertiet.

image
Page by Kellie Mize
Aren’t those expressions just adorable? Kellie rocked the challenge this week. She used the leather down the side of the page but blended it into the page design beautifully. I love the colors of the page with that photo just a perfect combination. Kellie stayed true to the challenge and didn’t add any additional products.

image
Page by Cassie Jones
Cassie used a photo of Heidi Knight’s little cutie Avery for her page. They actually got to hang out together a couple weeks ago (and the rest of the team is really jealous!) In typical Cassie style, she used a few more products than the 3 required kits (but I love that about her!) Embroidered Flowers by Jesse Edwards, Stitched up frames, Ledger Brushes-n-Stamps, Notebook Paper Pieces, Curled Notebook Paper, Defining Moments - Love, Photo Cuts Masks all by Katie Pertiet. Cassie used the Photo Cuts for the paper journal strips down the edge of the photo. They are such a versatile product!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Please feel free to join us in the challenge and post your pages in the 3 Kits 3 Ways Gallery. We’d love to see them! Special thanks to our rockin’ designers for not only producing great product and tutorials, but for also knocking this challenge out of the park.
