iTunes Inspiration (No.3 - ish)

This week’s album art is from the band Branch.  I loved the end-of-summer colors and feel, not to mention the chunky title softened with some delicate brushwork in the corners.  You can see the inspiration piece influenced our layouts in many different ways.  Some of us imitated almost all aspects of the cover while others just picked up on one or two of the elements.  A great example of making an inspiration work for you

iTunes Inspiration

I’ve got a great bit of “album art” inspiration for you today and a few of our DD creative team members have joined in the fun.  The group is The Bravery and the ablum is The Sun and the Moon. Their song Believe is in heavy rotation on my iPod at the moment.

The sun rays give a great feeling of energy to the cover as do the extracted band members. Here is my take:

Merrilee chose a photo of her grandson jammin’ to the wiggles:

And Melanie created this hip layout about her teenage son:

If you’d like to try a page like this yourself you can find an excellent extraction tutorial in Cassie’s Laying It All Out No. 4 as well as a background in my Rays of Light Overlays. Enjoy!

iTunes Inspiration

Since DesignerDigitals is giving away a new iPod Nano as part of its birthday celebration, I thought I should revive my iTunes Inspirations. Do you remember those? In addition to providing you with groovy music, iTunes is chock full of CD art (album covers for us old timers) that have the advantage of 1) being perfectly square just like a 12x12 layout and 2) showcasing cutting edge graphic design.

Today’s example comes from my OC homies No Doubt:

image

I loved the messy font they used to give a bold and graphic feel to the CD and found a similar font named Edo. So instead of using a patterned paper to go with these bowling photos I used words as my background design.

If that seems like more work than it’s worth, you can try Katie’s DoodleDo Overlays to get the same effect.
