Getting To Know You

Hello everyone! Today I’d like to introduce you all to our own Designer Digitals Commander Terry, otherwise known as MIDA78466
image
Terry’s Gallery is a treat to browse - the variety of interesting subjects and themes that she chooses to scrap are inspiring, as is her masterful technique. Make sure to check it out!

Terry openly confesses to being a Designer Digitals addict, but lays all the blame at Paula Gilarde’s door. Terry did a beginner’s class with Paula in 2007 and consequently joined DD in December of that year.
An amazingly busy woman, Terry previously worked as Chief Financial Officer of hospitals, but she has been employed for the last 10 years as a Practice Administrator for a group of radiologists. She is pretty much at the beck and call of those doctors 24/7 - even when on vacation! She also has to travel a lot, being out of town at least once a week. The upside is that she gets to work out of home, so has lots of flexibility; although I don’t think that means being able to sneak in extra scrapping time! Terry also teaches managerial/cost accounting at the University and have been doing that since 1997.
I told you she was busy!
Terry and her husband have 5 children, 4 already grown and out of home and one a senior in high school. They are both rather looking forward to enjoying the empty nest syndrome!
I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading Terry’s answers to these questions we posed.

Q1. What do you consider to be your essential tools for creating digital scrapbook pages?
A. I just can’t live without my Nikon D60 camera. I just bought a new lens 50mm 1.4 and love it. My Macbook Pro—it’s my baby!

Q2. Who in the Designer Digitals community inspires you?
A. Oh let me see—there are so many talented ladies here at DD—it is hard to pick just one. Anke—she and I started digi at the same time. Love how she can layer so many elements. She’s the queen of embellies. Linda-I had the opportunity to meet her this summer. Just love her clean look and bright colors. Never get enough of Katie and Sam’s LO’s. Then there is Amy—love the LO’s of her boys. Aino—she has a style of her own and never tire of seeing her little ones. Kelly—mugsbigsis—now that is one creative woman. I just wish I had a little bit of her creativity. Can’t forget Katrina—now she inspires me with her photography!

Q3. Would you say that your scrapping is photo or story driven?
A. hmmmmm…that’s a good question. At one time I would say it was photo driven but now I am trying to concentrate on recording the stories behind the photos.

Q4. Do you have a favourite time in the day/week to scrap?
A. How does all day and night sound!! Seriously—I have a full time job so about the only time I have to scrap is at night.

Q5. What are your 3 all-time favourite DD products?
A Just love Katie’s Classic Cardstock, Anna’s stitches and Pattie’s Fasten Its.

I asked Terry to choose her favourite page to share with you. She picked two and asked me to choose. Well, that was just too hard, so here are both of them, along with Terry’s comments about each page.
She says, “I love each one of these for a different reason. The style in Perfect is way different for me. I had fun with it and it has very honest journaling. The football one is also one of my favorites because I feel like it really captured the emotions of the kids on the football team.”

I’m sure you will all join me in thanking Terry for her participation in our community here at Designer Digitals. Her pages are an inspiration and she is always so supportive, encouraging and helpful in the forums.

We are proud to know you a little better, Terry!

Heritage Challenge No. 22

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.”  ~  John Ruskin

Good morning from Mollie aka readstoomuch!  The topic that I have chosen for this week’s Heritage Challenge is weather.  In particular, heritage weather!  We will be creating a layout about a weather related photograph or memory which shows weather from our past.  Weather is never boring . . . it is always a great conversation starter & it is always with us!  Debi {beehive50}, LInda {earlofoxford} & I {readstoomuch} have scrapped photographs that tweaked our memories of weather from a certain part of our early lives.

First is this interesting layout from Linda showing a vivid memory of this dramatic weather event that touched her life in 1960.  LInda’s mother had photographs of Hurricane Donna that LInda used to scrap this memory and how it affected her home.  I love the acrylic water droplets that she used on this page!

Supplies:  Stuffed Edge Photo Frames, Little Snips Alphabet, Frightful Element Pack, Splatters Brushes and Stamps, 2nd Hand Memories Element Pack, 2nd Hand Memories Element Pack, All Set Numbers, Petit Jacques Kit, Sanctuary Alphabet, So Perfect: Boy Paper Pack, WaterDrops No. 01 ElementSet, SandScratched Overlays No. 01 12 X 12 & Stitched by Anna White No. 01.

Debi’s layout shows a very young Debi sitting in front of her Southern California home in a pretty spring dress in the middle of March.  Debi said that this was quiet a change from their previous home in Minnesota!  Be sure to notice Debi’s play on words in her title “Weather”.

For my page about weather, I used some photos from my childhood about how I loved the snow and a favorite memory from those snowy times.  This layout is about the delicious Snowcream that my mother would make for me.

Just My Type - Challenge 3

What a hectic and exciting weekend of chats and specials we have all had here at DD. It’s been awesome.

Now on to my Typography inspiration for you.

I have done this on purpose smile A simple example of how typography enhances a layout immensely. It can be your title or your focal point.  The different interpretations by the creative team reminded me how versatile
a) the creative team is and
b) everyone interprets inspiration differently.

So here is the inspiration piece.

image

Let’s have a look at how different our layouts are.

Firstly Debi’s great layout using a large photo of her gorgeous son as the focal point and she used many ideas from the original piece to create her layout.

image

Then Mollie created an awesome “splash” for us all to enjoy. The way Mollie has used flourishes to enhance the title to emulate the movement of her grand daughter in the photo’s is awesome.

image

Then Mel’s use of an awesome eye-catching central photo with an amazing quote is inspiring all on it’s own .

image

Lastly I took a literal angle on it.

image

Hope we have inspired you to create your very own layout using this purpose as your inspiration.  Please upload your layouts in the Just my type gallery.

have a happy week.

Sam
