Friday Flickr Favrites! Week #29

Photos mean so many different things to each of us. They remind of us of our own experiences, elicit emotions, or simply appeal to us in ways we can’t always describe. Whether through telling a story, showing us an angle we hadn’t expected or presenting a detail we’ve never noticed before, photos hold more than just a reflection of a moment. Perhaps a photo compels you to create your own version of the subject or makes you cherish something dear in your life. They are individual experiences that connect us together.

I hope this week’s Friday Flickr Favorites elicit feelings and reflection for you. Enjoy the talent that is in the Photo of the Day Group. You are welcome to join us whether you intend to take a photo a day, a photo a week, or just a few photos as you are compelled.

Click through on each photo to see the talented photographer behind the image.

Show Off a Favorite Photo

Some templates just lend themselves to showcasing one or two favorite photos, and Michelle’s Layered Memories No. 063 is one of those templates. It appealed to me last year when I was working on my France album, and I ended up using it for my title page with a shot of the Eiffel Tower.

I love how Elena (Elena) used the template to highlight the great picture of her son Brevin with his catch. Her choice of colors, papers, and embellishments carry out the outdoors and watery themes expertly.

Kayleigh (Kayleigh) modified the template slightly by deleting the large flourishes and using patterned paper to draw the eye to the cute pictures of Spencer examining his friend Mr. Worm. Her signature stitching and title work complete a terrific page.

I worked on this page while we were at the beach last week, where we happened to get a rare picture of all six of us when we visited the St. George lighthouse. To accommodate my landscape-oriented photo, I rotated and flipped the template. This page will likely become the title page of my beach album this year.

If you’re like I am and can hardly resist a flourish, you’ll like this template. I’m eager to see how you use it, and you can pick it up for 30% off today. Post your finished page in the Template Challenge Gallery so we can leave you some love.

Getting To Know You: Stephie_Long

Hello everyone!!  Brittany here with another community member for you to get to know!
image
The interview today is with Stephie Long, who you might also know as daughter of our own Janet Long.
I asked Stephie to tell us a little about herself.
I have a close family of 4 sisters and 1 brother. I live in Idaho with my husband and 3-year-old daughter, Eden. It seems like lately all my siblings are moving away from me. After getting my bachelors in choral music education, I taught choir briefly in a high school before deciding to stay home with Eden. I now have a private voice studio in my home. I love teaching, but love being a mom more. I bake a lot of cupcakes and spend too much time playing and making messes in the kitchen.

How did you get started in digital scrapbooking?
I’ve done traditional scrapbooking with my mom ever since I was little. I remember looking through books that included some layouts using early digital scrapbooking techniques. I loved the photo effects and text directly on photos, but I didn’t think I could give up the textures and real elements of traditional scrapbooking. A few years later my sister (Becca) taught me how to scrapbook in Photoshop Elements. Now I can’t hardly stand to do anything the traditional way. Upon finding DD, I realized that I don’t have to sacrifice to use digital scrapbooking.

I love your use of color and your sense of style in your pages… where does your inspiration come from?
My scrapbooking really tends to reflect my decorating style, but I get the most inspiration from challenges and from other scrappers at DD.

What is your scrapping process? Do you start with a photo you want to scrap or with a kit? Do you mix it up a little?
I usually start with a photo to give me inspiration for colors or a theme. My daughter is really funny, so the crazy stories behind her pictures are what motivate and initiate the whole process.

When you aren’t scrapbooking, what other interests and hobbies do you have?
Decorating, crafting, music, baking, blogging, shopping for birthday presents (a guilt-free way to spend money).

What products from the store do you find yourself using over and over again?
Oh, I have lots of favorites! Anna’s stitches, Spot Dots, Little Bits alpha, flossy stitches, Ali’s Hand Drawn Words, Clean and Serene solids, Worn Edges, Nanyang Kit

I also asked her to share a favorite page of hers with us and she chose this beauty of her and her adorable daughter!

Thank you Steph for letting us get to know you a little better!
