Hello everyone, Lisa Pate here. A few weeks ago Laura posted a layout that became an instant favorite of mine. This week I decided to use it as my inspiration for a hybrid project.

The process is simple. Print your images onto cardstock, cut them to size, and then place them in a frame. This is by far one of my favorite projects to date. I love that this project is personal and can be easily modified as needed in the future. As always we enjoy seeing what you create in the Hybrid Gallery.

I tend to be an “inside the box” thinker. It’s probably the left-brained, English teacher in me. And when I see a template, sometimes I’m intimidated by the design that’s already laid out before me. As I’ve grown as a scrapper, however, I am more apt to assert my creative independence. Just because a design element is a certain size or in a certain place, that doesn’t mean it can’t be changed. Part of the real joy of working with a template is making it suit your vision. I didn’t issue a specific challenge to the Creative Team with Studio Double-D’s Layer Works No. 095, but each of us definitely made the template her own. Let’s take a look.
Connie (scullen2), one of our new Creative Team members, used the white space in the template to include a wonderful blended image. The pops of color against the neutral background draw the viewer’s eye down her page to a photo of her daughters giving a kiss to this sweet little guy.

Terri (tdavenport) draws us right into her Christmas Eve page with the red background paper, and I love the seasonal embellishments she included to support her theme. The Santa hat on that owl is just too cute, and I really like how she used the photo of Santa’s milk and cookies.

I went seasonal with my page in honor of Valentine’s Day. I reduced the size of the inner mat and shifted it off center to make room for a scalloped border and a cool new dictionary blendable by Katie. It was fun incorporating the heart embellishments to support my theme.

Whether you think inside or outside the box, I think you’ll enjoy working with this template. And remember, Katie and Randy are generously donating a $5 gift card to the store to one lucky scrapper whose page will be randomly selected. Post your 100% current DD page in the Template Challenge Gallery by 11:00 PM EST, Thursday, February 16, to be eligible.
This week the field is wide open . . . we have no particular heritage category today. So just find a great old photo from the 70’s or earlier and scrap away. Too easy? I’ll throw in one request . . . let’s put a modern twist to our heritage pages this time. When going through the fabulous Heritage Gallery I find that often times I am drawn to the simple and sort of mod looking layouts . . . so I thought that perhaps it might be fun to see what some others come up with too.
I typed “heritage” into the search box in the Designer Digitals Store and came up with loads of cool heritage products . . . and I think that these are particularly mod looking.

Coming Unglued: Families Alphabet
Now go through the store on you own and find some other “non-heritage” products for your pages and share them with us in the Heritage Gallery. Take a look at the pages that CT members Carol [carollee], Sharon [Shannamay] and I [readstoomuch] have made for the challenge.
Carol’s A Note to My Future Self used these products: Pink Florale Paper Pack, Valentine Pretties Paper Pack: Solids, Ripped and Stitched Do-it-Yourself No. 03, Artistry d’amour Add-On Paper Pack Clean Stitched: White No. 03, Stitched Journal Strips No. 03, Classic Curled Photo Frames No. 03, Nana’s Buttons and the new and fabulous Anders Kit.
Next we have Sharon’s Love these Memories about her Nana & Grandy. Sharon used the following from the DD Store: Filed Photo Frames No. 06, Mega Tag Pack, Anders Kit and Hello Life Boxes Brushes & Stamps No. 03.
The last page is my own . . . I have used the following products: Design Your Life Template No. 12, Bead Scatterings No. 03, Fine Line Twists No. 01, Fiske Kit, Love Sentiment Strips and Artistry d’amour Add-On Paper Pack.
Lynn aka Grandma Lynnie, my Heritage Challenge co-writer for the blog & I hope that you will draw inspiration from Debi, Jana and the two of us this week for Heritage Challenge No. 49. We would love to see your back to school pages in the Heritage Gallery along with ours. Remember that your pages should use products from the Designer Digitals Store and feature memories from the 1970’s or earlier. Some of you may be surprised that you are considered “heritage” girls!!!
