3 Kits 3 Ways {Week 24}

It’s that time again! We’ve got another 3 kits 3 ways challenge. And I think the key word this week is “challenge”. I picked an unusual combo of elements (or so I was told! LOL) Anyway, here’s what we started with:

Average Joe Kit by Dana Zarling

image
Bare Branches Alpha by Jesse Edwards

image
Labeled Go Brushes by Anna Aspnes

As always, the rules are simple. Use the 3 kits and change them anyway you want to. Adding additional products is allowed (and encouraged) as well. The whole idea is to pull out something you may have forgotten you had or buy something that you now can’t live without. smile

Here are the pages this week:

I had to start with this darling page of sweet Ginger. She has gotten so big! In addition to the 3 kits, Stacy added Naturally Krafty Paper and Vintage Photo frames No. 9 {coming soon} by Katie Pertiet and Zig Zag Stitching by Anna Aspnes.

I thought it was interesting that Debi and Stacy both used the same papers from the set, Naturally Krafty No. 1 and the new Vintage Photo Frames No. 9 that Katie is putting up in the store soon. Although Debi recolored just about everything on her page. She also used Bare Chipboard Shapes by Katie Pertiet.

This is a bit out there, but it just seemed to work for the photo. I recolored my papers to match the art piece and combined the teal paper from Average Joe with Monoblendz Origins by Anna Aspnes for the background. I also added Stitching Holes, Ledger Grids and Watery Brushes all by Katie Pertiet.

Please feel free to join us with this challenge and post your pages in the 3 Kits 3 Ways Gallery when you are done. Thanks!

Saturday Scraplift (no. 54)

Well, Saturday is nearly over already here in New Zealand and I spent the day selling off my paper stash. Thank goodness for digital (since I am scissors-and-glue challenged), especially since you can create wonderful pages like this by Nichole aka Amikasmomwithout a single papercut:

image

I love Nichole’s use of elements and color here, and the design is a great structure you can build a page around - as this week’s lifts prove:

image
Credits: layout by Tara, Notebooks edge frames, pinned frames, flossy stitches, basic border strips, Little round tabs, and floral edgers all by Katie Pertiet, torn and tattered paper template 02 by Anna Aspnes, Putting on the glitz cardstock and buttons by Pattie Knox, Retrophide solid paper by Jesse Edwards and Noir et Blanc kit by Mindy Terasawa.

image
Credits: layout by Janet, Woven Naturally paper, drawn stitches, gaffer tape, pinned frames all by Katie Pertiet, simple torn edges by Anna Aspnes.

image

Credits: Layout by Lynnie, Camo style blue kit, twill (playtime), curled notebook paper, stitching holes. photo frame, mega tag pack and counting trash alphabet all by Katie Pertiet, roundabout felt by Pattie Knox. Bow is made from goodies from Hoppy Birthday Kit, have a heart felt, little folded ribbon bits one and two all by Pattie.

Have a go and lift the layout yourself! If you do, don’t forget to post in the Saturday Scraplift gallery. I loved the stories told in these wonderful pages from last week:

Things That Make You Go Grrr

Nic Howard’s book, That’s Life, features layouts depicting her family’s everyday experiences. Her layout topics range from what will happen to the last sad banana to why is the Monday morning alarm so loud? On the surface these topics may seem trivial and not worth observing, yet it’s these small moments, observations and events that make up the meat of our daily lives. Howard says that many of these pages cause people to stop, smile and say, “I would never have thought to do a layout about that!” or “I need to do a page about this aspect of my day.”

Here’s a fun layout she did to document some of the little things that frustrated her called “Things that Make Me Go Grrr”:

So there’s this week’s IdeaBooks4u challenge.  Do a layout about the little things in life that drive you crazy.  Come check out the layouts created by the Design Team over at the IdeaBooks4u blog and then create your own.  Post your layout in the IdeaBooks4u Inspiration Gallery at Designer Digitals.  This was a fun challenge and I hope you’ll join us!  Jill

» Just My Type No. 26 «

I’ll bet you thought I’d forgotten this week! Not really… just Spring Break for my kids and a few days off for me, too! (And, yes, our school district decided to have break when no one else does! Geesh!) At any rate, it’s still Wednesday here in California, so I’m technically not late with our typography challenge this week! *wink*

CHALLENGE: Use a light whimsical font on a layout.

That’s right… whimsical. Fun. Light. Airy. And, usually cute! *grin* The two I chose for this silly layout are SS Whimsy (made popular at Designer Digitals by the talented Vinnie!) and CK Higgins Handprint (from Becky herself)... they went together so well! (I’ve had these fonts on my computer forever, so I’m not even sure if I downloaded them from Creatiing Keepsakes or Simple Scrapbooks, or if they were on a CD… sorry!)

And, can you believe how different SS Whimsy looks with a “stroke” added to it?

So, find a fun photo or two or three or ??? and then find a whimsical font to pair with your photo(s). You can search your own font library (which, if you’re like me, is pretty big!) or try online font “stores” such as dafont.com, fonts101.com or abstractfonts.com. I also found a new funky font site tonight… check out fonts.tom7.com!

Have fun with your layout this week and don’t forget to post it in the “Just My Type” gallery at Designer Digitals! Enjoy!
