Heritage Challenge No. 11

“Women usually love what they buy, yet hate two-thirds of what is in their closets.” ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic’s Notebook, 1960

Why do we remember our clothes when we can’t remember what is in the refrigerator or what we ate yesterday? Some of my most vivid memories are about wonderfully special dresses or a great pair of shoes. I look back fondly on a pair of red jeans with rolled up cuffs & my Red Ball Jets tennis shoes . . . remembering my friend Cissie wearing her matching pair of pants and shoes the day that we sold rocks {yes rocks that we picked up from the road} from a box on the sidewalk in front of her house when we were eight! And, I am sure that all of us have vivid memories of looking forward to the hunt for that perfect bathing suit every spring & the dread of trying them on and showing our mother for the o.k. or nix!

This week for the Heritage Challenge on the Designer Digitals Blog we are scrapping about a favorite piece of clothing. It can be a favorite dress from your childhood; one that you particularly loved or one that belonged to someone else (your mother, your father, sister, brother, friend etc.). You could select a Christmas or Easter outfit that you remember well or anything connected with clothing.

Remember that at Designer Digitals, heritage is from the 1970’s and older! I know that lots of you find that it is always fun to journal a story to go along with the photos too, and I particularly love reading heritage stories. I believe that journaling just doubles the memories for the next generation!

Patricia {phfphd}, Laura {laura grimes}, Stacy {FlowerGirl} are joining me {readstoomuch} with layouts about some of our favorites. Now, let’s just dive in and see what sort of examples we have here on the DD Blog.

First of all is Patricia with an incredible page titled “Fashionista”
which uses a wonderful photograph of her mother & her two sisters wearing white dresses that their mother sewed for them.

Patricia has used an amazing number of products from the DD store in such a wonderful manner.  I know that you will find some of these kits perfect for some of your heritage pages too: Letter Box Seamstress Kit, Botanist Notebook No. 06 Kit {favorite needle}, Crumpled Paper Flowers No. 01,Ledger Paper Pieces: Hearts, Flossy Stitches: White, Stitching Holes Borders No. 02 Brushes and Stamps,Grungy Ledger Grids Brushes and Stamps, Artist Edge 2, Layered FotoBlendz 3 ,Life WordART No. 01 BrushSet, Crisp October Kit, How’d They Do That? No. 13: Bending Shadows and How’d They Do That? No. 04: Selective ReColoring

Next is Stacy’s “Groovy Baby” for the extremely cool 1970’s. Stacy is treating us to a page that takes us back to the 70’s.  Pattie’s new “Absolutely Acrylic:  That 70’s Stuff” is absolutely perfect for Stacy’s groovy parents!  I cannot remember an era so defined by it’s clothing styles as the 1970’s.  I guess that we thought that the wider the bell bottom trousers the cooler we were!

The really groovy products that Stacy used are:  Rainbow Solids Paperie, Stitched by Anna White No. 01Smoothie Shop Kit, Stamped Stitched Flowers Brushes and Stamps, and Pattie’s “Absolutely Acrylic - That 70’s Stuff”!

Look carefully at Laura’s “Beauty & Style” page about her Grandma Georgia . . . you are going to fall in love with his lovely lady!  I am afraid that as a Grandma I am falling short in the style & beauty department compared to this beautiful gal . . . and what a job description to top this one off.
