Saturday Scraplift (no. 51)

Welcome to the somewhat delayed Saturday Scraplift! It may be a little late, but I couldn’t go past this great layout by Katina (aka TomKat):

I love how Katina has echoed all the energy and excitement in that photo with her fun design. Plus I love keyword journaling - and this is a great take on that with the words incorporated into the circular design. Such a bright, happy page and a great example of how to work with a photo and let it inspire your page.

It certainly inspired Sara, Sarah and Stacy:

It would be great to see your take on this wonderful layout. We always love seeing them in the Saturday Scraplift gallery. Last week there were so many wonderful pages! Unfortunately I’m in that “just got back home, suitcases to unpack, empty cupboards and piles of washing” phase so I can’t post them all here. But they were all so lovely and I hope there will be lots more this week too!

Taking off the edge

Rounding the corners on your rectangular photos and papers gives layouts a subtly softer look.  When I used to paper scrap, I would go weeks where I used my corner rounder punch on every single piece of paper I could get my hands on!  Then I would switch back to sharp corners for a few weeks until my taste changed again.

When it comes to digital scrapbooking, the equivalent of a corner rounder punch is a corner rounder brush.  This type of brush used as an eraser will make rounding corners child’s play.  The best thing about it?  You don’t end up with teeny tiny pieces of paper all over your floor and if you don’t like the result you can simply click “undo!”  This week we’re over at the IdeaBooks4u blog we’re creating layouts with rounded corners (but I bet you already guessed that)!

Design Team member Steph Vetne will walk you through the process re-creating her layout “Saying Yes” that was published recently in “Computer Tricks for Scrapbooking 2.”

This is an easy technique that really gives your layouts a new look.  I hope you’ll play along in this week’s challenge.  If you do, be sure to post at the IdeasBooks4u Inspiration Gallery.  Have a great week!  Jill

» Just My Type No. 24 «

Welcome to another typography challenge! This week’s challenge should be easy AND fun! Hope you join in!

Challenge: Use an alpha brush as a clipping mask to create a unique title. Clip your title letters to paper, to cardboard, to tissue paper. Or try my technique: I clipped my alpha to the journaling strip masks that had paper clipped to them! Fun! And, I think it came out pretty cool looking! (At least it’s different!)

So, give it a go… pick your favorite alpha brushes and clip away! Make sure to check out the fabulous selection of alphas at Designer Digitals... I used Katie Pertiet’s “Tall-n-Thin” alpha on my layout. And, after you’ve completed your layout, make sure to post it in the “Just My Type” gallery at DD! Thanks for playing this week! Enjoy!

New Chat Series!

Is someone missing from your albums? Would that someone be YOU?!?!? I know, I know…you hate photos of yourself, right? I can relate, trust me! Grandma said that there is more to a person than a pretty face, and my grandmother was a wise woman. The “All About You” chat series is designed to help jumpstart your creativity and provide you with ideas for creating pages about your life…past, present and future. I hope you’ll join me tonight while we discuss ideas for 4 theme pages and get to know each other a bit better in the bargain. Tonight’s freebie is a layered .psd template that could be used for your opening page!
