Saturday Scraplift (no. 59)

Did you see this fantastic page by Brenda ?
image

She says it took a long time and I can believe it - but what a result! A very special page for some very special photos. And lots of inspiration here for the taking too! I love the grouping of the photos. Instead of creating a perfectly square montage, Brenda ever so slightly tilted and layered the individual photos. It is amazing what a difference little details like that make to a page. I LOVE the layering of the papers as well. And the color scheme is so striking. The lesson here is don’t be scared of black - it goes with everything and instantly makes for an eye-catching page.

Here’s how we were inspired, and hopefully we will see your layout later this week!

3 Kits 3 Ways {week 27}

Welcome to another edition of 3 Kits 3 Ways! I apologize that this one is a bit tardy but I lost my internet for 2 days. Can you imagine? It isn’t perfect yet, but I can at least get on the net and post. Woohoo!!!

So, for those of you who are new to the 3K3W challenge, the rules are simple. I choose 3 kits from the store every other week and then ask 3 designers to take the kits and design pages. It is always fun to see how different the pages are from all the designers. We also hope to remind you of things that you may have bought and forgotten about or you might never have seen before. We’re all about the enabling. smile

Here are the kits for this week:

And here are the pages using these fun products…

I love this photo. Isn’t she darling?? I love how she wrote on the photo too. In addition to the 3 kits, Angie also used Stacked Vintage Frames No.2 by Katie Pertiet, Clip Its! No.2 and Glitzy Chips Alphabet by Pattie Knox.

My sweet Zoe had a scary fall on Memorial Day and remarkably only scraped her elbow…so I am still basking in my gratitude for the fact that she is safe. smile I used the Countdown Felt as part of the background along with the infamous Cabana White by Katie Pertiet, Island Blues Alpha by Lynn Grieveson (slightly recolored) and Mama Kit Stitching by Anna Aspnes (recolored).

Look at Libby run! This girl was determined to beat the field that is for sure. smile The only addition that Steph made to the challenge was to add the Hinged Photo Frames No.1 by Katie Pertiet.

Thanks for stopping by for our FRIDAY version of 3K3W. Please feel free to play along and post your pages in the 3 Kits 3 Ways Gallery.

Who needs a tripod?!

Do you ever shake your head in disgust when you “think” you’ve shot the perfect photo only to have camera shake ruin the picture?  If your answer is yes (mine is YES!!), do we ever have a challenge for you over on the IdeaBooks4u Blog!  This week we’re drawing our inspiration from the well-known photographer and author Bryan Peterson.  In Peterson’s latest book, “Understanding Shutter Speed”, he shows how to create modern art out of common subjects.

Take a look at this run-of-the-mill type photo he took of some tree branches:

image

Now, look at the same tree when he applied his “painting” techniques:

image

If you have a basic knowledge of how to shoot photos in manual mode with your SLR camera, you’ll be able to do this.  Come check out the instructions for this fun technique and look at some more examples on the IdeaBooks4u blog.  After you find your subject to “paint”, post your results in the IdeaBooks4u Inspiration gallery at Designer Digitals.

Happy Shooting!

Saturday Scraplift (no. 59)

I couldn’t resist this fun page by Fiona (aka Applechick):
image

I love how the lines of the torn paper act like an arrow drawing your eye and attention to the wonderful cluster of jaggedly cut photo, lace, journaling strips - and those fantastic smiles! What a great twist on an extraction as well! You can easily “cut” a jagged outline like this in Photoshop using the Polygonal Lasso tool. It looks like Fiona extracted the girls and placed them on a white background first but you may be able to miss that step depending on the background of your photo.

I can’t wait to see the layouts this one inspires! There are lots of different directions you could go in, as these lifts by Jill, Patricia and Jess show:

image
Credits: layout by Jill, Monoblendz Skyline Papers by Anna Aspnes, Kraft torn edges and dripped stains no.3 (coming soon) also by Anna Aspnes, Flower Power kit (journaling strips) by Kellie Mize, In a whistle kit by Mindy Terasawa (coming soon), Stitching holes, curled photo frame and Krafty boy paperpack by Katie Pertiet.

image

Credits: layout by Patricia, sitiching holes, Stitiched journal strips, mailroom paperpack and filmed template and active overlays (both coming soon) all by Katie Pertiet, Noir et blanc kit by Mindy Terasawa, martial arts wordart by Dana Zarling, Double datesby Kellie Mize.

image

Credits: layout by Jess, Fresh Linens kit by Kellie Mize, curled torn edges No.4 by Anna Aspnes (coming soon), Stitchesby Pattie Knox, Journaling strip masks by Katie Pertiet, Vellum Garden Bugs stickers by Rob and Bob.
