Line up and lift a great scrapbook layout design

Saturday Scraplift No.159

Capturing great photos of a perfomance or show is hard enough. Scrapping them can be an extra challenge. I love Denise Gormish’ssolution in this week’s inspiration page:

I love the way the three photos are matted, with the journaling under them on the mat. And you might not have thought of using a white mat on a white background - but as you can see, it really works. Wonderful brushwork to subtly connect the different elements of the page design, so the phrase tags are not left “floating” in the corner. And Denise also followed the “rule of three”. Well, it’s not really a RULE - but you will often find that repeated elements (such as the little stars on this page) look best when they come in threes.

Here’s how Janet, Wendy and Heidi were inspired:

Friday flickr faves week 21!

Oh, its hot here in the Uk. Okay ‘hot’ is relative, I know, and for some of you, well you’d be freezing still wink However I am a Brit and we are used to rain mostly LOL.  So this week on FFF I find myself drawn towards pictures that offer shade, cool somethings and leafy retreats… smile

Shall we start with this lovely house captured by ‘Our neck of the woods’?  I have a thing about derelict houses… I always want to move in and rescue them, and frankly this is SO lovely I’m packing as you read this…
Old farmhouse

And how about this for cooling down? gorgeous shot by ‘bal93’of a basic staple in life wink Coffee, hot or cold…

Just Finish It Challenge No. 2

Welcome to the Just Finish It Challenge! This week’s challenge includes some great tips from our Creative Team members. Let’s get right to the layouts.

Kathleen’s beautiful layout captures a very difficult good-bye for her family but it is something that they will treasure forever. She created this layout for a 2009 album that she is working on.

image

Supplies: Sweet Layered Template No. 2, In The Post Kit, Stitching Holes Brushes and Stamps, Watery Hearts Brushes and Stamps, Stamped Stitches No. 09 Brushes and Stamps, Time Clusters No. 02, Pinned Notes, Little Bits Alphabet: Red No. 02

And Kathleen has a great tip for helping her to stay organized and motivated when she’s working on long-term projects. Here is a screenshot of one of the folders on her computer.

image

Here’s how Kathleen describes her system: “I have one folder for each book. The images are the flattened jpgs that I upload here to DD but I also use the folder to organize my album/book by page # so they’re in order. As you can see, I have a special image that I use for the pages that still need to be created. The name of that image (for example “Phideaux” the name of my cat, or “closing” the closing page of the book) lets me know what that page will be about. Having a visual of how much I’ve completed for a book and what exactly I still need to do helps me focus on Just Finishing It!”

I love her system and will definitely start using it.

Myra is working on Project 365 for 2009. I am in awe of anyone who takes on this task and she is creating a stunning album. By using a template and one other kit, her pages come together pretty quickly. Here is her latest page:

Elena is working on an album for 2008. She relies heavily on scraplifting and templates to help her get older layouts done.

Hybrid Scrapbooking and More—Making Bookmarks

Besides scrapbooking,  one of the things I love to make using Designer Digitals Products is bookmarks.  One of my favorite summer activities is reading.  I love to sign my kids up for the reading program at our local library.  I love to have a good book to read as we while away the lazy days of summer.  There is just something special about reading a book and then using a fun or beautiful bookmark to hold my place until I can get back to it.

Here is a bookmark I made for the kids at library story time.  It is fun for the kids because they can move the kite up and down on the string that it is attached to.

Products used:  Drawn In Stitches, Scribble Paper Pack

This is a bookmark that can be placed in a book that you are lending out and ask the person you lend it to to write their name and their comments about the book on the inside.  It will also help them remember that the book belongs to you and, hopefully, they will return it as soon as they are finished with it.

image

Products used: French Summer Kit, File Folder Labels Element, Little Bits Alphabet: Red, Messy Stamped Alphabet No. 06 Brushes and Stamps Value Set, Stitched by Anna Red No. 01, Wooden Alphabet, School Words No. 01 Hand Drawn Brushes, Staple Its!, Stitched by Anna Scalloped Borders No. 01, Basic Paper Alphabet: Orange, Artfully Intense Paper Pack, Artfully Intense Paper Pack, Messy Stamped Numbers and Extras Brushes and Stamps

I hope this will inspire you to get out your Designer Digitals products and make some bookmarks for you, your family and friends and if you do, please upload them to the Hybrid Scrapbooking and More Gallery so we can see your ideas.  Thanks, Janet
